On average, people sleep between 6 and 10 hours a day, and during sleep many important functions in our body take place:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The brain processes information and stores it in memory or discards it. There is a neural cleansing of all unnecessary and<br \/>\nharmful chemical compounds in the brain and a balancing of neural transmitters and hormones.<\/li>\n<li>In the body, hormonal regulation occurs, the body is cleansed, the immune system is strengthened, DNA is restored, tissue is healed and growth hormone is secreted.<\/li>\n<li>The overall effect of sleep leads to the improvement of physical, mental and spiritual energy and provides us with the basis for proper and healthy functioning in everyday life.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Considering that sleep represents the daily &#8220;reset&#8221; of our organism, its quality represents one of the basic principles of longevity. Sleep hygiene, a term often used in everyday practice, refers to habits and conditions that enable quality sleep.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Some tips for better sleep hygiene:<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Always go to bed and get up at the same time, even on weekends. Scientific research has shown that a routine is more effective in sleep hygiene, and that \u201cmaking up for sleep debt\u201d on weekends does not contribute to longevity and balance in our body<\/li>\n<li>During the day, short naps of up to 20 minutes are recommended<\/li>\n<li>The bedroom must be dark and cooler (20-21 degrees Celsius)<\/li>\n<li>Meals should be avoided at least 3 hours before bedtime, and they should not contain fat, sugar or alcohol.<\/li>\n<li>Caffeine, that coffee contains, but also black tea and matcha tea, should be avoided at least 6 to 8 hours before bedtime<\/li>\n<li>The blue light that surrounds us (television, laptop, cell phone, etc.) should be avoided at least 1 hour before bedtime. If this is not possible, it is recommended to wear glasses with a blue filter or set your smartphone to a blue light-free mode<\/li>\n<li>Preparations such as herbal sleep aids and melatonin are recommended only exceptionally and in short intervals so as not to disrupt the balance that the body needs for sleep and during sleep.<\/li>\n<li>It is desirable to be exposed to daylight during the day and avoid bright, white and industrial lights during the evening and night in order to maintain the circadian rhythm in the brain.<\/li>\n<li>It is desirable to stretch lightly, read, meditate or breathe slowly and meaningfully about twenty to thirty minutes before going to bed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>In conclusion<\/strong>: proper and satisfying sleep acts like a daily \u201cservice\u201d for our body and allows it to recover and repair from everyday stressors and damage.
